THE PREDICTION
Both world number three Casper Ruud and number 16 Matteo Berrettini have beaten Thiago Monteiro in their singles matches this week, with Italy edging past Brazil 3-2 and Norway losing 4-1. Ruud’s solid victory over Monteiro is good news for the Nord after a patchy end to what was by far his most impressive season on tour, finishing runner-up at both Roland-Garros and the US Open amongst other successes. Ruud beat Berrettini in a one-sided contest to make the semi-finals in New York as the Italian continued to struggle with various injuries and the Nord leads their head-to-head record 4-2 with four of those meetings coming in his favoured clay. Berrettini’s fitness is still somewhat up in the air but this match should come much closer than his capitulation at the US Open. Back Ruud to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners or risk Ruud outright.
