THE PREDICTION

20-year-old Marta Kostyuk comes into the Miami Open at a career-high WTA world ranking of 38th after winning her maiden title at the Austin Open earlier this month. The Ukrainian stunned Danielle Collins in the semi-finals before a consummate victory over Varvara Gracheva in the Austin final and she should be better for an early exit at Indian Wells last time out, which often happens to first-time titlists on tour. World number 49 Elisabetta Cocciaretto reached her first final at the Hobart International back in January before finishing runner-up to Lauren Davis and she has enjoyed some deep runs since, making back-to-back quarter-finals in Mexico at the Merida Open and Monterrey Open. A straight-sets defeat to Nuria Parrizas-Diaz at Indian Wells last time out was not ideal but this first meeting with Kostyuk could come a lot closer than it first appears depending on what frame of mind the Austin Open champion is in. Back Kostyuk to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
