Marie Bouzkova vs Zheng Qinwen prediction

Marie Bouzkova battled past Kimberly Birrell to progress to the third-round of the China Open. Birrell was on a six-match winning run, having picked up the first tour-level title of her career in Seoul last week, and she went a break up in both sets, but the Czech fought back to win 6-4 6-4 after one hour and 24 minutes. Bouzkova converted five of six break point opportunities.

She faces Zheng Qinwen next. The 2024 Olympic champion advanced after her opponent Anna Kalinskaya retired in the deciding set due to illness. Kalinskaya edged clear after winning the tiebreak in the first set, but Zheng levelled the match and went 3-0 up before the Russian decided she could not continue. Zheng has won eight of her last 10 matches in total, including qualifiers.

Bouzkova’s consistency could frustrate Zheng, but with home support behind her, the Chinese player should be able to create plenty of opportunities if she maintains an aggressive approach.
