THE PREDICTION
World number seven Andrey Rublev had to come back from a set down to Richard Gasquet on Wednesday and he needed a third-set tiebreak to put the 35-year-old away. 24-year-old Rublev is certainly still trying to find his best level on tour, with contracting covid-19 at the start of the year no great help at all. 27-year-old Lucas Pouille is on the much longer journey back to his best after a horrendous injury lay-off saw him almost disappear form the tour for good. The Frenchman has been well-backed in two three-set victories over in-form Tallon Griekspoor and Radu Albot but this is a much tougher task now. Rublev has beaten Pouille in straight sets in both their previous meetings, including in similar conditions indoors at the 2018 Rotterdam Open. The Russian is not playing well enough to back for a possible straight sets here but he should eventually come through the outright winner.
