THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Barbora Krejcikova won Roland-Garros in 2021 via a three-set victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, stunning the likes of Elina Svitolina, Coco Gauff and Maria Sakkari en-route as world number 33. The Czech set a career-high of WTA world ranking of second early last year off the back of a magical 12 month and after a brief period of struggling with both form and fitness she ended last year with two titles in quick succession at the Ostrava Open and Tallinn Open. Krejcikova beat Iga Swiatek in the Ostrava final last autumn and again to win her first Masters title in Dubai back in February to look like one of only a handful of players capable of stopping the defending champion in Paris. World number 63 Lesia Tsurenko is slowly creeping back up the rankings after enjoying some renaissance form at 33 years old over the past 12 months. The Ukrainian reached the third rounds at both Madrid and Rome via some impressive performances and, whilst Krejcikova is the clear favourite, this first meeting between the two could get interesting. Back Krejcikova to win outright as three sets are a distinct possibility.
