Jonny Clayton returns to Ally Pally looking to continue his fine form in the tournament where he has made the fourth round or further in each of the last four editions.
Clayton has had yet another solid year and he will be aiming to hit the ground running here. In his first-round match last year, he produced a stunning performance in beating Martin Schindler as he registered an average of 112.77.
He meets Adam Lipscombe who is coming into the World Championships on a major high after a remarkable run at the Players Championship Finals. That came after reaching the final of the Players Championship 7 event where he ultimately lost to Gary Anderson after beating Damon Heta and Dirk van Duijvenbode.
These recent performances have shown Lipscombe can mix it and beat some of the top players in the sport but this could well be a different dynamic for him.
Clayton is as solid as they come and his consistency is excellent. The Welshman should have far too much quality for the newcomer and we expect Clayton to ease to victory.
