JOZEF KOVALIK VS MARCOS GIRON PREDICTION
World number 50 Marcos Giron is a solid all-courter who took Andrey Rublev to three sets before defeat at the Italian Open earlier this month, although he has struggled to make much of an impact on clay this swing. The 30-year-old finished runner-up to Tommy Paul at the Dallas Open in February and then lost to eventual champion Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals at Delray Beach but a 3-5 record in clay suggests his opponent stands a chance at an upset.
World number 131 Jozef Kovalik looked strong in qualifying before losing in the third round, from a set up, to Roman Burruchaga. The 31-year-old finished runner-up to Luca Pouille at the Mauthausen Challenger earlier this month to bring some clay form into Paris but Giron should be able to eventually come through, despite that hard-to-quantify second wind momentum that so often boost lucky losers. Back Giron to win two sets as the likelier of the two to edge a potential five-setter.
