THE PREDICTION

World number five Jessica Pegula overcame former number one Victoria Azarenka in three sets on Friday, continuing a promising trajectory back to her former glory. The 30-year-old finished runner-up to world number one Iga Swiatek at the WTA Finals late last season but she began 2024 in a concerning malaise – splitting with long-term coach David Witt before more recently improving in Miami last time out.

World number 11 Daria Kasatkina has enjoyed a much more consistent 2024, finishing runner-up twice already to Jelena Ostapenko in Adelaide and Elena Rybakina in Abu Dhabi, and she claimed her maiden WTA title here back in 2017. The 26-year-old came back from a set down to oust an impressive Jaqueline Cristian on Friday, backing-up an eye-catching result over 15th seed Anhelina Kalinina, but Pegula leads their head-to-head 2-0 to pose her biggest threat yet. The American will receive a partisan atmosphere here at a tournament close to her heart but this should come closer than their her previous straight-set wins over the Russian. Back Pegula to reach the final.

TIP: JESSICA PEGULA TO WIN
