THE PREDICTION
Former world number 13 Jennifer Brady will be a popular draw on Monday as she continues her return to tour from an almost two-year long absence. The 28-year-old conceded just three games to Anhelina Kalinina in her first match back at the Washington Open but then quite understandably ran out of steam against Madison Keys in the following clash. World number 20 Jelena Ostapenko won her sixth WTA title at the Birmingham Classic in June to look a serious threat at Wimbledon but she was stunned in three sets by Sorana Cirstea in the second round to bomb out of the draw. The 26-year-old is a bug threat on any surface when her hammer strokes are painting the lines but it is hard to back her confidently in this first match on tour since that exit. Brady leads the Latvian 2-1 in their head-to-head but it would be largely sentimental to back a big upset here. Taking the American to earn at least a set feels shrewd, if not brave, but the suitably cautious move would be taking that option in Ostapenko’s favour.
