There is little between them in the rankings but Riera has been putting together some fine results at the lower level of late and the Argentine with be eager to make her mark in South America.

Meanwhile, Armenian Elina Avanesyan put together her best run in Hamburg, reaching the last four in late July, but that was on clay and she hasn’t featured on hardcourt since February.
