THE PREDICTION
World number 68 Jaume Munar beat Rinky Hijikata in straight sets on Thursday to back-up a great week at the Provence Challenger, where he finished runner-up to Alejandro Tabilo on Sunday. The 27-year-old is capable of better tennis than his current ranking suggests, particularly on his favoured clay, but inconsistency has been his main weakness in recent seasons.
World number 30 Cam Norrie has been struggling with a similar problem this season as he aims to get back on track from a largely frustrating 2023. The 28-year-old came within a hair’s breadth of making the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in January, just missing out in five sets to Alexander Zverev, and he has been competitive for the most part this season without finding much rhythm. The pair share a 1-1 head-to-head record that Munar leads 1-0 on clay, although Norrie has improved significantly since their clash at the Rio Open in 2019 – winning the event last season at Carlos Alcaraz’ expense. Back Norrie to reach the third round.
TIP: CAM NORRIE TO WIN
