THE PREDICTION

29-year-old Jason Kubler set a career-high ATP world ranking of 71st late last month after some strong work so far this season and he can surpass that if he manages to another upset here. The Aussie beat Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets on Wednesday for an excellent opener at Indian Wells as he finally makes his Masters debut after so many years of chronic injury setbacks and his will be a tough momentum to break. World number 25 Grigor Dimitrov reached the quarter-finals here last season and he stunned Daniil Medvedev here in 2021, the delayed October edition, before losing to eventual champion Cam Norrie in the semi-finals. The 31-year-old made the semi-finals of the Rotterdam Open last month before defeat to eventual champion Medvedev to suggest he is in some of his better recent form but predicting what version of the talented former world number three will take to court is impossible. The Bulgarian is the clear favourite on form and ability and yet Kubler is the more dependable performer. Leave this match out of an accumulator but consider taking Kubler to earn at least a set here to leave the victor up to chance.
