World number 49 James Duckworth enjoyed his best season on tour last year with a superb run to the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters capping it off. A loss to Soonwoo Kwon in his first ATP tour final at the Astana Open was a shame after an impressive week but the hard-working Aussie broke the top 50 for a first time and he will be eager to build on that this season. Duckworth faces world number 70 Adrian Mannarino for a third time with their head-to-head record finely poised on 1-1 after he beat the Frenchman in straight sets at the Stuttgart Open on grass last year. 33-year-old Mannarino is a silky player at his best but 2021 saw a significant downturn in form, although his four-set defeat to Roger Federer at Wimbledon could well have gone his way were it not for an unfortunate injury. Take Duckworth, backed by a boisterous partisan crowd who love an underdog, to come through here as the outright winner.
