THE PREDICTION

World number one Iga Swiatek maintained a perfect record in her title defence at Roland-Garros after Lesia Tsurenko was forced to retire from the first set of their match on Monday. The 22-year-old is through to the quarter-finals in Paris via just seven sets, her best record so far considering she won her maiden Grand Slam here three years ago without dropping one, and she has already handed out four bagels. World number six Coco Gauff finished runner-up to Swiatek here last summer in a one-sided final and despite her clear desire for vengeance she trails the Pole 0-6 in a very convincing head-to-head. 19-year-old Gauff put in an assured performance to beat Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova on Monday but her third round win over Mirra Andreeva stands out as most impressive so far. Gauff has yet to win a set from Swiatek, though, and the Pole’s dominance at Roland-Garros will probably see her lift the title once again without doing so. Back Swiatek to win in two.
