THE PREDICTION

World number one Iga Swiatek takes a seven-match winning streak into the round of 16 at the Ostrava Open from her incredible campaign at the US Open, where she beat Ons Jabeur to claim the third Grand Slam title of her career. The 21-year-old now owns 10 WTA titles since claiming her first at Roland-Garros just two years ago, with six won on the spin earlier this season through a remarkable 37-match winning streak that included four Masters tournaments and Roland-Garros. This remains a tough opener for the Pole, though, against in-form Ajla Tomljanovic as the Aussie comes to Ostrava on a career-high WTA world ranking of 34th. The Aussie had to qualify for the stacked draw in Ostrava this week but the momentum looks to have helped her after an impressive straight-sets victory over Shuai Zhang on Monday and this looks her best opportunity yet at beating Swiatek for the first time.

Swiatek has never dropped a set to Tomljanovic in their two previous meetings, including back in August in Toronto, but taking the Pole to win outright is a suitably cautious move given her break since New York and Tomljanovic’s momentum.
