World number 37 Alexander Bublik lost huis United Cup opener in straight sets to a resurgent Stan Wawrinka on Friday before also losing to the Swiss pair in the Mixed Doubles to see Kazakhstan lose 5-0 in their first tie. The 25-year-old is perhaps the most unpredictable player on the ATP tour, well capable of upsetting almost anyone on his day, but this looks too steep a climb from losing to Wawrinka as he faces world number 10 Hubert Hurkacz for the third time in 12 months. Hurkacz, also 25, has won each of their last three meetings on tour since Bublik took their first encounter back in 2020 and he will be eager to do his part in this very exciting Polish team alongside all-conquering world number one Iga Swiatek. Hurkacz has beat Bublik in straight sets twice in 2022 and back him to do so again at the turn of a new year.
