World number 19 Karen Khachanov beat Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets on Sunday to maintain his recent strength in the early rounds of tournaments. The 32-year-old has won each of his first two matches in nine of his last 10 tournaments, meeting kryptonite Alexander Zverev in the first round of Toronto, to see him rise steadily back up the rankings and this should be a well-fought clash between two players fighting to rediscover their top 10-worthy best form. Former number eight Karen Khachanov won his first ATP title since late 2018 at the Zhuhai Championships two weeks ago but he has struggled in his two matches since, losing early at the China Open and scraping through a three-setter with qualifier Beibit Zhukayev here on Sunday. Dimitrov leads the world number 14 2-0 in their head-to-head but it is arguable that Khachanov is in a much better place than their previous meetings in 2020 and 2021. Given the Russian’s struggles since Zhuhai, back Dimitrov to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
