World number 19 Frances Tiafoe got his United Cup campaign underway well with a solid straight-sets victory over Tomas Machac in the USA’s 4-1 result over Czechia. The 24-year-old set a career-high ATP world ranking of 17th late last season after just losing out on a first Grand Slam final in a five-set defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz and he should be able to build on that ranking this season. World number 76 Oscar Otte also win his opener in Sydney in a straight-sets result over Dalibor Svrcina but Germany ultimately lost out 3-2 to the Czech side. The 29-year-old will do his best here but this looks too steep a test, particularly as the USA need one more win to seal the tie after Alexander Zverev and Jule Niemeier lost on Monday. Back Tiafoe to win outright, with two sets likelier than three.
