THE PREDICTION

This should be a fun encounter between world number 16 Frances Tiafoe and number 73 Marcos Giron, with Tiafoe leading their head-to-head record 2-1 after winning both of their meetings last season in straight sets. The 25-year-old has struggled to impose himself on tournaments this season but a run to the semi-finals of the US Open last season needed five sets before eventual Carlos Alcaraz could oust him and it should not be long before he rediscovers that fire. 29-year-old Giron has played well so far this season but there is a reasonable ceiling at around the top 30 mark for the elder American. A straight-sets victory over Aleksandar Kovacevic was a solid start to his Indian Wells campaign but Tiafoe is always at his best on the bigger stages on tour and he could be one to watch this fortnight. Take Tiafoe to win outright.
