World number 77 Emma Raducanu improved on a poor start to overcome 20th seed Magda Linette in straight sets on Saturday and the Brit looked to be in slightly better shape than her opening win over Danka Kovinic. 20-year-old Raducanu now has a positive 4-2 record for what has so far been another injury-hampered season but there are encouraging signs so far for the 2021 US Open champion. This promises to be a proper thriller with world number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia, who came back from a set down to edge past Katerina Siniakova on Saturday. The Brazilian has beaten Paula Badosa, Daria Kasatkina and Elena Rybakina to look the reasonable favourite on paper in this first meeting between the two but facing a fit and firing Raducanu for the first time has often proved tricky for players. The Brit should develop into one of the great illusionists on tour, capable of taking her opponents’ weapons away from them as she did to Linette on Saturday. Three sets seem likelier than two here and the crowd could make the difference with what should be a fairly one-sided pull towards Raducanu.
