ELINA SVITOLINA VS KAROLINA PLISKOVA PREDICTION

Former world number three Elina Svitolina faces former number one Karolina Pliskova in a match possessing far too much quality for a first round draw.

29-year-old Svitolina will enjoy home-from-home support after her incredible resurgent form at Roland-Garros last summer, where she took a nine-match winning streak through to a quarter-final exit at the hands of Aryna Sabalenka, and it took Sabalenka to out her from a fierce clash at the Italian Open earlier this month, suggesting she is ready to be a factor this fortnight.

World number 51 Pliskova was rarely at her best on clay even at the peak of her powers but she reached the semi-finals back in 2017 to prove her credentials. The Czech enjoyed a brief patch of form earlier this year to win her first WTA title since 2020, and a 17th overall, in Romania but she has just one win on clay since the start of the swing.

Svitolina has won each of their last four matches to level their head-to-head at 4-4 but this first meeting since 2019 should provide her first lead in their race. Back the Ukrainian to win outright.
