Former world number 20 Daria Saville has moved up almost a hundred places in the WTA world rankings to 323rd after a straight-sets victory over Shuai Zhang on Thursday. The 28-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open late last month and took the first set from eventual champion Sloane Stephens before defeat. Saville has reached the third round here on each of her three previous appearances.
ONS JABEUR
27-year-old Ons Jabeur has reached the quarter-finals in each of the last three tournaments she has played, losing to Anett Kontaveit at the Sydney International and Qatar Open as well as Simona Halep at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The Tunisian won her first WTA title last season at the Birmingham Classic on grass and she took that form into a quarter-final exit at Wimbledon. The world number 10 lost in the semi-finals to eventual champion Paula Badosa at Indian Wells last October.
THE PREDICTION
Daria Saville won the only previous tour-level meeting between these two players at the Charleston Open in 2018, back when she was known as Daria Gavrilova. The now naturalised Aussie played well in the first round here but Ons Jabeur is several floors above Saville at this moment in time. Jabeur’s recent fitness issues make leaving her matches out of accumulators wise for the time being but back her to win in straight sets here.
