World number 11 Daria Kasatkina is an excellent all-court threat at her best but she has enjoyed clay most consistently over the years, reaching the third round or further in seven of her nine Roland-Garros campaigns including the semi-finals in 2022 and at least the round of 16 here in Rome in six of her eight appearances. A three-set exit to in-form Yulia Putintseva in the last 16 of Madrid last week came as something of a surprise but the Russian should have more than enough to avoid an early exit here to Tatjana Maria. World number 65 Maria overcame Linda Fruhvirtova in three tight sets on Wednesday to leave little time for recovery and whilst the 36-year-old’s renaissance form has been hugely impressive in recent years she has struggled to string back-to-back wins together this season. Take Kasatkina to win in straight sets.
