THE PREDICTION

This is a really interesting first meeting between two Frenchmen in world number 115 Corentin Moutet and number 159 Lucas Pouille, with both players far better than their current rankings. In 22-year-old Moutet’s case some poor form late last season put a dampener on his earlier success, whilst 27-year-old Pouille continues to attempt the long road back from a serious injury lay-off. The former world number 10 has yet to exhibit the level he was capable of back in 2018, with a stunning run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open ended by eventual champion Novak Djokovic here in 2019. Much of this match will rest on what version of Moutet plays, with the firebrand left-hander seeing red in Adelaide last week to be disqualified from Adelaide 1 only to come back and reach the semi-finals of Adelaide 2. Take Moutet to win at least two sets as the likelier winner in a difficult match to call.
