World number eight Casper Ruud is 11th in the Race to Turin but his slim chances of making the ATP Finals, where he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic last season, were increased after Taylor Fritz ended his season by withdrawing from the Paris Masters through injury. 24-year-old Ruud has failed to win more than three matches on the spin since losing to Andrey Rublev in the Bastad Open final back in July and he has endured a tough season overall, with his second-consecutive runners-up place at Roland-Garros, also to Djokovic, the one real shining light. World number 21 Francisco Cerundolo came back from a set down to break Parisian hearts late on Tuesday with victory over veteran Gael Monfils and that is a huge result in these conditions. The 25-year-old will be well aware of the pressure Ruud is under for ranking points in this fifth clash between the two and their 2-2 head-to-head record suggests this could go down to the wire. Ruud is unlikely to go down easily here so back the Norwegian to earn at least a set, as he has done in three of their four matches, to leave the victor up to chance.
