THE PREDICTION

World number nine Casper Ruud did well to avoid a potential early upset with a straight-sets victory over Yoshihito Nishioka on Friday. The 24-year-old is a fierce foe in these conditions at his best, with his forehand a force to be reckoned with when he is fully confident on court, but anything less than full belief makes him vulnerable. World number 32 Christopher Eubanks came back from a set down to beat Yannick Hanfmann on Friday but he has failed to win back-to-back matches since making the quarter-finals at the Atlanta Open. The 27-year-old’s remarkable rise up the rankings started on hardcourts with a career-best quarter-final exit at the Miami Open in March but his form has been quite understandably erratic since a life-changing run to the last eight at Wimbledon in July. Back Ruud to come through outright here with three sets about as likely as two.
