THE PREDICTION
Whilst this looks a winnable fixture for world number one Carlos Alcaraz, this first meeting with Denis Shapovalov should be a vastly entertaining spectacle. 20-year-old Alcaraz conceded his first set of the tournament to Taro Daniel on Wednesday but the Spaniard rarely looked in trouble after a blistering start and finish to his second round match as he continues a collision course for main title rival Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. World number 32 Denis Shapovalov has already played nine sets in Paris after a commendable four-set victory over Matteo Arnaldi on Wednesday followed a five-set thriller over Brandon Nakashima. The 24-year-old is at his best on the faster surfaces of grass and hardcourt but his powerful serve and left-forehand should cause Alcaraz a few issues and both players will enjoy the occasion as they try to out Hollywood each-other on court.
Back Alcaraz to win outright, with straight sets a reasonable risk, but consider adding at least one tiebreak here with Shapovalov a tough man to break when dialled in.
