THE PREDICTION

World number three Jessica Pegula has been a consistent high-performer on tour for much of the last two seasons but she has particularly thrived at Masters events in the last 12 months, winning her first in Guadalajara late last season. The 29-year-old lost to eventual champion Barbora Krejcikova at the Dubai Masters last month and you have to go as far back as August to find her last defeat by a player, in this case Daria Saville, who has never been ranked inside the top 10 on tour. Former world number 26 Camila Giorgi is in decent form right now after recently winning the fourth WTA title of her career at the Merida Open last month and she is also a Masters titlist after claiming the Montreal Open back in 2021. The Italian beat Arantxa Rus in straight sets on Wednesday but she has drawn one of the shortest straws in the competition here, particularly as Pegula should enjoy a partisan atmosphere here. Giorgi is practically unplayable when she finds her very top gear but that is fleeting. Back Pegula to extend her convincing 4-1 lead in their head-to-head with a straight-sets win here.
