World number 12 Cameron Norrie is riding a six-match winning streak into the Acapulco Open quarter-finals after he beat Reilly Opelka to the Delray Beach Open title last Sunday. The 26-year-old avoided a first-round clash with Carlos Alcaraz to come through two tough matches against Daniel Altmaier and John Isner, the latter whom he came back from a set down on Wednesday. World number 95 Peter Gojowczyk is having one of those charmed weeks on the ATP tour that bring all sorts of surprise results with them. After losing to Yoshihito Nishioka in the qualifiers he came through as a lucky loser to face and beat Brandon Nakashima well and he then saw an almost certain defeat by Alexander Zverev disappear as the German number one assassinated his own career once again.
32-year-old Gojowczyk should still be in that ‘nothing to lose’ mode that so many lucky losers have employed well over the last year on shock deep runs but Norrie is looking comfortable on court in this ability once again. The British number one claimed his first ATP title in Mexico at the Los Cabos Open last season and in this mood he is largely unshakeable by any player outside the top 20.
