World number five Holger Rune burst into the form of his career this time last season, culminating in a stunning upset over Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters final, but he has endured his first real sticky patch in recent months. The 20-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros in June, for a second year running, but a series of frustrating injuries have not been allowed to heal properly to see the Dane out of sorts on court. A straight-sets victory over clay-courter Bernabe Zapata Miralles was to be expected form or no form on Wednesday but the American will be eager to impress on the big stage. Rune beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in Beijing this time last week to look strong enough to win here but an outright call is the suitably cautious move.
