THE PREDICTION

World number 63 Alex Molcan exorcised some recent poor form on tour with a straight-sets victory over Albert Ramos-Vinolas on Thursday. The 25-year-old should be better in this next round after claiming only his third win of the season and he leads Borna Coric 1-0 in their head-to-head record after the Croat was forced to retire in the second set of their quarter-final on clay at the Hamburg Open last season. World number 20 Coric has struggled to find enough matches so far this season but he has looked solid in most of them and a run to the quarter-finals at the Dubai Tennis Championships was encouraging last week before defeat to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. The 26-year-old reached the semi-finals here back in 2018 and he came back from a year-long absence last summer to win his first Masters title at the Cincinnati Open. This is a tricky call considering Molcan’s poor form and Coric’s early struggles this season but back the Croat to reach the third round as the outright winner.
