THE PREDICTION

After a tricky first two thirds to last season former world number two Barbora Krejcikova ended last year with two more WTA titles at the Tallinn Open and Ostrava Open and she has taken that form straight into 2023. The current world number 16 won her first Masters title in Dubai two weeks ago to claim her second-successive trophy by beating world number one Iga Swiatek and that makes her a serious title contender here in Indian Wells as she takes a six-match winning streak into the second round. World number 142 Dayana Yastremska is showing a few signs of finding some of her best tennis again this season but despite a solid straight-sets opener over Anna Bondar on Wednesday she looks set to fall in two here. Yastremska actually beat Krejcikova in Dubai last season to level their head-to-head record at 1-1 but the Czech is in a much better place one year on. Take Krejcikova to win in straight sets.
