THE LOWDOWN

ANN LI

World number 64 Ann Li enjoyed a breakthrough season on the WTA tour last year as she shared the Grampians Trophy title with Anett Kontaveit at the start of the year and won her first WTA title outright at the Tenerife Ladies Open last October. The 21-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 44th in January of this year.

MADISON BRENGLE

World number 56 Madison Brengle set a career-high WTA world ranking of 35th back in 2015 after reaching her first and only tour final at the Hobart International, finishing runner-up to Heather Watson.

THE PREDICTION

31-year-old Madison Brengle is a dogged competitor but she managed just two games against Garbine Muguruza in her last outing at the Qatar Open last month. 21-year-old Ann Li looks the fairly solid favourite to come through this match against her compatriot with a run to the semi-finals of a Melbourne warm-up tournament back in January and a recent victory over Sofia Kenin for basis. Taking Li to win at least a set looks the suitably cautious move here, though.
