THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Alex Michelsen enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough on tour last season by reaching the final of his second-ever event at the Newport Open, becoming one of the last players to beat veteran John Isner before finishing runner-up to Adrian Mannarino. The American set a career-high ATP world ranking of 73rd after an impressive run to the third round of the Australian Open in January, where he stunned Adelaide champion Jiri Lehecka, and he recently grabbed a hugely impressive victory over Alex de Minaur at the Los Cabos Open before a tight exit to eventual champion Jordan Thompson.

World number 75 Jaume Munar is a gutsy player capable of causing the odd upset on tour and his clay sensibilities should marry up well with his strong hardcourt form in the slightly slower conditions here at Indian Wells. Two quarter-finals on clay last month in South America says the Spaniard is in one of his better moments in recent seasons but back Michelsen to thrive on a court that should suit him best, backed by a partisan crowd eager to cheer on a promising youngster.

TIP: ALEX MICHELSEN TO WIN
