World number 95 Emil Ruusuvuori almost got there himself early last season after a superb run to the round of 16 at the Miami Masters where he shocked Alexander Zverev in three sets. However, the Finn’s season stuttered in large parts despite the occasional quarter-final. The 22-year-old’s three-set victory over Jordan Thompson on Thursday is all the more impressive on Australian soil and despite Molcan’s performances so far Ruusuvuori should be backed to win at least a set as the just-about likeliest winner here in what is a very tight call.
