World number 117 Kamil Majchrzak has been Poland’s secret weapon at the ATP Cup with three straight-set wins over Michail Pervolarakis, Aleksandre Bakshi and Federico Delbonis giving Hubert Hurkacz a huge advantage in the second rubbers. The 25-year-old has broken the top 100 before and he looks likely to return this season in this form, with his win over world number 44 Delbonis the best of his career so far. Majchrzak will have to exceed that here in Poland’s first ever ATP Cup semi-final as he takes on world number 20 Pablo Carreno Busta. 30-year-old PCB has also been perfect in his group stage with three-successive straight set wins over Alejandro Tabilo, Viktor Durasovic and Filip Krajinovic. The Spaniard is arguably as good on hard as he is on clay and the conditions have suited him well so far.
This first meeting between the two should edge Carreno Busta’s way given how his match with world number 42 Krajinovic fared but Majchrzak has earned the right to be considered a serious threat. The sensible move is PCB to win at least a set as the most likely of two capable winners but the Spaniard should be able to win this outright.
