Adelaide native Thanasi Kokkinakis is a feel-good story so far this week at the Adelaide International with his win from a set down over fourth seed Frances Tiafoe his best performance since that famous five-set defeat top Stefanos Tsitsipas at last season’s Australian Open. The 25-year-old is an anomaly at world number 171 with bags of talent often interrupted by unfortunate injuries but he is a serious threat to this title in front of adoring home fans. World number 94 Mikael Ymer is yet to drop a set in two strong showings against Benjamin Bonzi and Soonwoo Kwon and the 23-year-old looks set for another steady season of progress after reaching his first tour final at the Winston-Salem Open last August. The Swede would be favourite to edge through this almost anywhere else but Kokkinakis can use the crowd to build and build here in Adelaide. Take the Aussie to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners.
