This looks like a real all-American battle between Alison Riske and Danielle Collins as the pair meet at tour level for a first time. Both players are yet to drop a set, with eighth seed Riske taking out the impressive Chinese youngster Xinyu Wang on Wednesday whilst third seed Collins took out recent Astana Open champion Alison Van Uytvanck in similar fashion. Collins has been the better player this season, not least because Riske has missed so much tennis with a long injury lay-off, but the younger American has won her first two WTA titles in 2021 at the Palermo Open and Silicon Valley Classic. 31-year-old Riske has two titles too, from Tianjin in 2014 and ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2019, but 2021 form and recent matches suggest Collins can get the better of her here with an outright victory.
