THE LOWDOWN

NEWCASTLE

Eddie Howe is coming under pressure up at St James’ Park as Newcastle United chase a top seven finish and European qualification after a really underwhelming few months. They come into this one on the back of being hammered by four goals to one by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in their most recent outing, last weekend.

In that game, Sven Botman, who is now a doubt for Newcastle, scored an 18th minute own goal before goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Jakub Kiwior made it 4-0. Former Arsenal man Joe Willock scored a late consolation for the Geordies. Newcastle have since edged past Blackburn Rovers on penalties in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

WOLVES

Gary O’Neil’s managerial reputation is growing by the game as Wolverhampton Wanderers progressed into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in midweek with a slender 1-0 defeat of Brighton and Hove Albion at Molineux with Gabon international Mario Lemina scoring a second minute winning goal in that game.

Wolves went into that cup match on the back of edging past struggling Sheffield United by a goal to nil last weekend, too, with a 30th minute winner from former Spain international, Pablo Sarabia. Wolves begin this match day sitting above Newcastle in the top-half of the Premier League table as they also chase a top seven finish.

THE TEAM NEWS

NEWCASTLE

Eddie Howe has confirmed that several key first-team players are still missing for the Magpies this weekend with Nick Pope, Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Callum Wilson all unavailable for this one.

Their general injury crisis is beginning to soften, though, with a few players returning to training this week, such as Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Dubravka; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Willock; Almiron, Isak, Gordon

UNAVAILABLE: Pope (Injured), Tonali (Suspended), Joelinton (Injured), Wilson (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Botman (Injured), Targett (Injured)

WOLVES

Gary O'Neil has confirmed that South Korea international Hwang Hee-chan will be unavailable for this weekend and there is no timescale on his return after suffering a thigh injury last week.

Hwang joins a two-man injury list for Wolves with fellow forward, Matheus Cunha, also missing due to injury with a severe hamstring injury.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Sa; Kilman, Dawson, Toti; Semedo, Joao Gomes, Lemina, Ait-Nouri; Pedro Neto, Sarabia; Bellegarde

UNAVAILABLE: Hwang (Injured), Cunha (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

At the start of this season, not many would have expected this one to have been such an evenly matched contest heading into the final couple of months of the campaign. Newcastle have been the ‘entertainers’ in the English top-flight so far this season with their 26 matches consisting of 99 goals. Wolves, on the other hand, have been a little more pragmatic and yet still good to watch with 40 scored and 40 conceded. Both teams scoring, as has so often been the case in Newcastle matches this season, seems inevitable for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
