World number 60 Ann Li has reached her third semi-final of the season after beating in-form Irina-Camelia Begu in two tough sets on Friday. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a good season either side of a disappointing injury lay-off and her best result was sharing the Grampians Trophy with Anett Konteveit after it was called off for clashing with the Australian Open. World number 66 Alize Cornet beat Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets on Friday to reach her third semi-final of the season too. The Frenchwoman has six WTA titles to her name so far, the last of which coming at Gstaad in 2018. This is already the third meeting this season between Cornet and Li, with the American taking their first in straight sets at the Australian Open but Cornet returning the favour in three sets at the Chicago Women’s Open.
