World number 63 Camila Osorio has been threatening a campaign like this in very brief flashes of brilliance across the summer and the 19-year-old has proved she is more than just a clay-courter by reaching a first hardcourt final. Osorio took out the top seed Elina Svitolina in the first round and backed that up by ousting fourth seed Camila Giorgi on Saturday in assured fashion to make her the favourite in this first meeting on tour with Ann Li. 21-year-old Li has been excellent on her side of the draw this campaign too, conceding just three games to Alize Cornet on Saturday to play her first ever WTA final with her previous one cancelled and shared with Anett Kontaveit at the Grampians Trophy in Melbourne earlier this year. There are more questions than answers here between two relatively new players to the tour but the level of Osorio’s vanquished foes has been that bit higher and she has won a title before, on home soil at the Bogota Open earlier this season. That experience should help her come through the champion for a second time this year.
