THE PREDICTION
It is first seed versus second seed at the European Open as world number 13 Jannik Sinner and number 14 Diego Schwartzman meet for the first time on tour. 20-year-old Sinner has improved with each passing round and conceding just four games to in-form Lloyd Harris on Saturday was mightily impressive in the semi-finals. Schwartzman’s campaign has been the tougher of the two, with a brilliant performance over Andy Murray in the first round giving the Argentine the momentum required to blast through two American youngsters in Brandon Nakashima and Jenson Brooksby. Beating Brooksby with a second-set bagel is exceptional work for the 29-year-old and he will face his third-straight 20-year-old here with a renewed confidence after some stuttering moments on tour this season. Both players have four ATP titles to their name so far, with Sinner winning three of his this season.
That probably makes Sinner the favourite on season form but Schwartzman has been electrifying this week and this match-up could suit the Argentine if Sinner does not start on his toes. Taking the Italian to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners seems a suitably cautious option here.
