THE PREDICTION

Tommy Paul made short work of Nam Ji-sung in the first round of Delray Beach to set-up an All-American tie in the round of 16 with fellow youngster Sebastian Korda. The two have not played each other on tour before but will know of each other as part of an influx of young US talent in recent years and it is a shame that there will be no home crowd to cheer the pair on. 20-year-old Korda beat a tougher first round opponent in Soon-woo Kwon but it will take some time for the highs of his 2020 Roland-Garros campaign to be forgotten after he made it all the way from qualifying to a round of 16 defeat to eventual champion Rafael Nadal. This should be a robust match with both players aware of their chance at winning this first title of the season and Tommy Paul’s experience at reaching the semi-finals of the first tournament last season, Adelaide, should serve him well here. A result is very difficult to call and so the likelihood of this going to a deciding set could be the only reasonable option in the markets. Paul should go through to the quarter-finals but Korda is not far behind his opponent in quality.
