THE PREDICTION
Gianluca Mager came from a set down to beat American wildcard Ryan Harrison in the first round at Delray Beach but now faces a much tougher prospect in Sam Querrey. The Italian rose from obscurity to achieve a career-high 77th in the ATP Rankings in February of last year after an incredible run at the Rio de Janeiro Open in which he beat Dominic Thiem, in straight-sets, on clay. Unfortunately for Mager the title was one step too far as he finished runner-up to Cristian Garin and the 26-year-old failed to win another match on tour in an admittedly disruptive season. Sixth-seed Sam Querrey had an easier time of it in a straight-sets victory over fellow American Mackenzie McDonald in the first round and the 33-year-old should fancy his chances at another win without dropping a set here. Mager will be hoping for more upsets on the clay swing this season but this should be the end of the road for him here.
