Tatjana Maria vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction
Tatjana Maria has significantly struggled this season, but she enjoyed an upturn in Rouen last week as she reached the semi-finals. The German did not drop a set in her three matches against Elsa Jacquemot, Dominika Salkova and Iryna Shymanovich, but she was unable to get through to the final as she was beaten by top seed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets. Nevertheless, Maria will take plenty of confidence from her first positive showing of the season.
She goes up against Liudmila Samsonova in the first-round. Samsonova has also been far from his best this season, but did manage to end a six-match losing run in Stuttgart last week, beating Antonia Ruzic in her opening round match. However, she would go no further after a defeat to Coco Gauff.
Samsonova leads the head-to-head 2-0, but this is their first match on clay. A resurgent Maria could make this a tough match for Samsonova, but the latter is still the clear favourite, despite her indifferent form.
