THE PREDICTION
Toulon’s season of two halves continues as they backed-up an excellent 19-15 victory over Toulouse with a 16-29 smash and grab away at Bordeaux last Sunday. Challenge Cup runners-up two years ago, Toulon could well sneak into the Top 14 play-offs after winning just four of their opening 14 matches of the season which would be a remarkable achievement. This home quarter-final clash with London Irish is trickier than it looks, though, with the visitors enjoying their best results on the road this season, including at reigning Premiership champions Harlequins, Exeter Chiefs and a draw at Saracens. Irish beat Pau on the road in the Challenge Cup group stages and more recently thumped Castres at home in the play-offs but Toulon remain the solid favourites here. A one-off punt on the visitors to cause mayhem with a +5 head-start could be worthwhile but otherwise taking Toulon to win outright seems a suitably cautious pick.
