St. Helens have dominated the Super League for a long period now and highlighted their quality to land the World Club Challenge in Australia last week. Saints now get their league campaign underway as they go in search of a historic fifth successive Grand Final victory and TSZ looks at three reasons why they can get off to a winning start against Castleford Tigers:
WINNING MENTALITY
St. Helens have had to deal with some adversity over the last few years and today will be no different. On the back of a long trek home from Australia and now without a handful of players, including the evergreen talisman James Roby, Saints may be up against it at the Jungle. However, they have the mindset to overcome anything thrown their way and their winning mentality should ensure that they are right on their game in this encounter.
QUALITY IN THE HALVES
Despite missing most of last season with an Achilles injury, Lewis Dodd slotted straight back into the halves last week and played beyond his years with another excellent display. Combining with Jonny Lomax, the pair were able to guide Saints around the pitch superbly and with that duo set to be pulling the strings once again today, any deficiencies Saints have in other areas will not be felt between the halfback pairing.
GETTING OFF TO A QUICK START
Cas may coming out all guns blazing as they look to build on how they finished last week’s game against Hull FC. The Tigers bagged four unanswered tries in the final quarter to almost pull off what would have been an incredible comeback but they ultimately fell short. Lee Radford was not happy with how his side started that game and is likely to demand much better here so if Saints can get the upper hand in the early exchanges, it bodes well for their chances of success.
