- Sydney Roosters were on the end of the shock result of the season as they were well-beaten by Brisbane Broncos last week and following that disappointing display, they will be extremely focused on getting back to winning ways.
- They will have to do so without Angus Crichton and Victor Radley who both copped bans last week to add to an already lengthy list of unavailable players but head coach Trent Robinson will be demanding a much-improved performance here regardless of who is out.
CANBERRA RAIDERS
Starting 13: Aekins, Simonsson, Kris, Scott, Rapana, Wighton, S. Williams, Lui, Starling, Guler, Harawira-Naera, Whitehead, Sutton – Interchanges: Hodgson, Soliola, Horsburgh, James – Reserves: Anderson, Rushton, Schneider, Young
Unavailable: Harley Smith-Shields (Injured), Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (Injured), Albert Hopoate (Injured), Jarrod Croker (Injured), Joseph Tapine (Injured), Josh Papalii (Suspended)
- After ending their five-match losing streak against Canterbury Bulldogs, Canberra Raiders were unable to build on that as they succumbed a heavy loss against a Melbourne Storm side missing their first-choice spine in what was another worrying display.
- The Raiders were missing some key players of their own but their performance was nowhere near good enough as they went down 10-34 and in what was been another week of off-field drama, Canberra have released halfback George Williams in a move that has not gone down well with his former teammates.
THE PREDICTION
Canberra Raiders look like a different side to the one that has taken
to the field in recent years and they have now lost six of their last
seven matches after an underwhelming showing against Melbourne Storm last week.
To add to their poor displays, there has been a lot of talk that all is
not right behind the scenes and those rumours were not helped by George
Williams’ sudden departure earlier in the week. They now come up against
a Sydney Roosters outfit that will be desperate to put last week’s
shock defeat to Brisbane Broncos behind them. Ill-discipline cost them
in that game and despite missing a clutch of important players for this one, the
Tricolours can exploit the Raiders’ issues to get back to winning ways and pile the pressure on Canberra head coach Ricky Stuart.
