Panna Udvardy has benefitted from being a Lucky Loser to play in the first round of the Monterrey Open after she had made it past Emiliana Arango in the first qualifying round before a three-set defeat to Darja Vidmanova in the second qualifying round.

Maya Joint, on the other hand, did manage to come through qualification as she defeated Jessica Hinojosa Gomez and then Yulia Starodubtseva. Joint has had a decent start to her hard court season with a third round exit in Toronto earlier this month.

Maya Joint will fancy herself here to take advantage of the withdrawal of Kalinina and she has to be viewed as the favourite to defeat Udvardy here.
