Mirra Andreeva vs Nikola Bartunkova prediction

Mirra Andreeva produced one of the most dominant performances of the second round, sweeping aside Eva Lys 6-0 6-2. The fifth seed needed barely more than an hour to progress and has now dropped only six games across her opening four sets in New York. She is just one match away from reaching the round-of-16 at the US Open for the first time in her career. She had been similarly convincing in round one, defeating Janice Tjen 6-2 6-2.

Nikola Bartunkova had a considerably tougher second-round, recovering from a set down to beat Tatjana Maria. The Czech fired 46 winners and converted six of nine break points as she won 6-7 (5) 6-2 6-3 after two hours and 10 minutes. 

Bartunkova has the aggressive ball-striking required to test Andreeva, but the Russian’s movement, variety and ability to redirect pace represent a significant step up in quality. Andreeva has been exceptionally efficient through two rounds, and she is the clear favourite to win.
